Last month, Country Living Magazine named the Flower Mound Pumpkin Patch as one of the best 25 in the country. As custom home builders in Flower Mound, we’ve enjoyed the hay rides, festive activities and “Pumpkin House” for more years than we can count. While it’s now open for its 27th year, will this be the last?
In 2017 more than 160,000 people came to enjoy the fall staple, but now it seems the owner needs to sell part or all of the property in order to remain in the Flower Mound area. Jan Balekian said she has experienced health issues and is closing in on 70 years old, and that she needs to sell 2.3 acres in the northeast corner of Lusk Lane and FM 1171 in order to live in the area she loves so much. This past spring, the city’s Planning & Zoning Commission received a proposed development for a CVS pharmacy to be built on the corner, but it was denied. Another proposal will be submitted soon according to Balekian.
Balekian has 24 acres which she said someone wants to buy if she can’t sell the corner, which would mean the end for the Pumpkin Patch. For this year, there are a few new additions for visitors to enjoy according to Balekian, including lots of new characters, a small playground for the tots, a new golf cart that can accommodate 10 passengers, and a new gazebo.
The Flower Mound Pumpkin Patch will be open for all to enjoy through October 31 according to news reports. Will we be able to enjoy the 28th year? Only time will tell.
