A recent study conducted by SmartAsset ranked Flower Mound, TX the most livable small city in the United States. The study focused on cities across the country with populations between 65,000 and 99,000. An interesting fact that came out in the study was that most of those that made the list are suburbs located near big cities, ideal for those who want access to employment and other perks of a big city but who don’t necessarily want to live in one.
Flower Mound took the #1 spot on the list because of the city’s positive economic climate. With an unemployment rate of 3.1% and homes that are considered affordable in comparison to the average household income in Flower Mound, it’s a great place to live!
The study found the average commute time for Flower Mound to be about 29 minutes, while the housing cost as a percent of median household income is 17.1%.
In determining the rank of the cities who made the list, SmartAsset focused on data from 248 cities using certain metrics including concentration of healthcare establishments, restaurants, bars and entertainment and recreation establishment. Other metrics used included unemployment rate, percentage of residents with no health insurance, housing affordability, income inequality (Gini coefficient), percent of residents below the poverty line, average commute time and more. Much of the data collected was taken from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2016 1-Year American Community Survey.
Two other Texas cities, Mansfield and Allen, landed in the top 20 spots on the list, Mansfield at #12 and Allen at #18.
Flower Mound has ranked highly and often at #1 in so many studies it’s hard to keep up. We’re proud to have made the top spot of the most livable small cities in the U.S. according to SmartAsset!
