If you’re considering a custom Flower Mound home, you may be thinking of including a gym – after all, it’s a lot more convenient (and private) than going to a local gym or fitness center. However, you may think it will cost a fortune and possibly take away from other areas of your home you want to focus on. The fact is, you can enjoy the benefits of a home gym without spending thousands of dollars!
When considering the design and layout of your custom built home, think about including a “bonus” room that could be used for a study, library, media room, extra bedroom, or even a gym. A room doesn’t necessarily have to be used for one single purpose! If you decide years from now you no longer want a gym, you haven’t lost anything – the room can still be used for other purposes.
What about equipment? Weight machines and benches, treadmills, stair climbers – this equipment can add up to a ton of money. If you want to get (or stay) fit without the huge investment, you can still accomplish your goals for only hundreds of dollars instead of thousands.
Here’s some of the equipment that will help you accomplish results without the “weighty” (pun intended) price:
Instead of weight machines, choose bands. Bands offer exceptional resistance and can be used for leg raises, biceps curls, lateral pull-downs, and more depending on how you use them. Handles make the bands easy to manipulate, and attached to a door provides even more resistance.
A platform step is a great replacement for a treadmill, and free weights can do the job of a weight rack. An exercise ball (often called a physioball) can provide the results you would get with a weight bench. A platform step is extremely versatile, and replaces a stair-climber because of the various ways in which you can use it. Depending on whether you raise one end, you can also use it as a flat or incline weight bench!
Physioballs are great for the core, and while you can do crunches on them and hundreds of other exercises, they’re fantastic for using in conjunction with free weights. Place the ball under the head/neck/shoulder area, and lift all the free weights you want while giving your lower body a workout as it holds you in position.
You really don’t have to build an expensive home gym, or spend a small fortune on equipment. When building your custom Flower Mound home, include an extra room that can be used for multiple purposes. Throw down an exercise mat, get some of the inexpensive gear described above, and get busy! You’ll be surprised how inexpensive equipment can produce results that rival those of costly equipment.
