Naturally, you want your new Flower Mound custom built home to be beautiful and welcoming, but you may not have taken into consideration such things as your kitchen countertops, and how easy they will be to clean, how durable the materials are, etc. That’s what we are here for! As trusted custom home builders in Dallas, we want homeowners to know about all of the features of a new home, even down to the smallest details. What are some of the countertop options, and the advantages or drawbacks of each?
Here are some of the most popular, frequently chosen by homeowners for their beauty and other factors:
Granite – Granite is a natural stone surface which is smooth and highly resistant to heat, important if you do a lot of cooking. This is a durable choice, offering a wide array of colors and rich visual texture; granite also resists bacteria and stains when properly treated. Sealing granite on a yearly basis is essential, as it is a porous material.
Laminate – A popular choice because it’s easy to clean, water resistant, and durable, laminate is a cost-effective solution that offers beauty and almost unlimited style and color options. However, with this type of countertop material there are seams and edges that are somewhat visible, and the surface isn’t designed for cutting.
Solid Surface – Solid surface or acrylic countertops offer a wide array of color and pattern choices, and resist stains, water, and bacteria. Unlike laminate, no seams are visible with acrylic, so it’s easy to clean; additionally, scratches, chips, or dents can easily be removed by sanding. The downside to a solid surface? It’s not as heat resistant as granite or quartz, and scratches fairly easily.
Quartz – While quartz does have visible seams, it is the smoothest, most durable countertop choice of all. Easy to clean and resistant to stains, bacteria, and heat, quartz is low maintenance and offers consistence pattern and color choices. However, if the surface does become scratched, it may be difficult to remove. There are also fewer color choices available.
