Meeting With A Custom Home Builder – What To Bring Along

April 5, 2018

Meeting with your Flower Mound custom home builder for the first time can be a little nerve-wracking. You want to make sure the builder understands what you want and that communication is as clear as possible. So, what are the things you should make sure to have with you for that first meeting?

A few floor plans you like. Most people don’t have an exact plan, but they do have an idea of what they want when it comes to the floor plan and layout. Whether it’s plans you like cut from pages of magazines or some you’ve sketched out on your own, it helps give your builder a better idea of the results you’re looking for. There are lots of floor plans you can find online, so keep that in mind as well.

A copy of your budget. Most potential homeowners have a close idea of what they can afford when it comes to a custom home. You’ll want to bring a copy of your budget in order to keep costs under control and help your builder determine what materials will work to keep your project within budget.

Bank statements, loan documents and other financial information. Most who are looking to build a custom home in the North Texas area get pre-approved, so you’ll want to bring any loan documents, pre-approval letters, and bank statements along so your builder knows you’ll be able to afford the home. This also helps your builder stay within your budget.

Already have your own lot? Be sure to bring along maps or records pertaining to the property, as this will assist your builder in determining the best placement and whether the size/shape of the lot will accommodate the size house you’re considering.

Of course you’ll need to leave contact info with builders including your address, cell and home phone numbers, even a work number or email address. Your builder may have questions and being able to contact you quickly is important to avoid any delay on beginning the construction of your dream home.

Bringing along these documents and information can go a long way toward making your first meeting with your custom home builder less stressful. At Bud Bartley Homes our Flower Mound custom home builders have one goal in mind – delivering the home of your dreams. Give us a call today!
