How Can You Make Your Flower Mound Home Greener? Simple Tips

September 8, 2017

Many homeowners in North Texas wonder what they can do to reduce their negative impact on the environment. Of course having a high-performance custom home built is the best solution, and if you have had a green home built by our home builders, we’re highly appreciative! If you’re already living in a home in the Dallas-Ft. Worth metro area, what can you do to create a greener home?

Upgrade appliances if yours are outdated. You would be surprised at the percentage of your energy bill that can be attributed to your dishwasher, refrigerator, washing machine, and other appliances. Appliances that have the Energy Star label are best, and today’s washing machines not only consume less water, but electricity as well. It can make a substantial difference in both your utility costs and the environment.

How you keep your home comfortable makes a huge difference. Comfort is important, especially in the Dallas area, where temperatures can soar during summer months. If your HVAC system is getting on up there in age, replace it with one that offers a higher SEER rating. Also, be sure to use ceiling and other fans to circulate the air, and make it a priority to clean the filters on a regular basis.

Upgrade to LED light bulbs. Although the initial cost is higher, LED bulbs last for years and consume more than 65% less energy than standard bulbs. Even the small changes can make a considerable difference!

Clean your home using products that are organic and safe for the environment. There are countless products available today that are environmentally-friendly. Even vinegar and baking soda are useful for many cleaning tasks, but you can search the internet to find cleaning products that don’t contain ingredients that may be harmful to the environment – or even your family.

There are dozens of ways to make your home greener and more environmentally-friendly; these are just a few of the easier ones.

Considering a custom built Flower Mound home? Count on Bud Bartley Family of Builders for quality, luxury, and environmentally-friendly homes that exceed your dreams.
