Keeping Your Flower Mound Custom Home Cool And Comfy Is Easier Than You Think

March 28, 2019

Even when you’re financially able to build the Flower Mound custom home of your dreams, it doesn’t mean you want to squander money unnecessarily in an effort to keep your home cool and comfortable.  Summer is here, and along with it the brutally hot temperatures and sweltering humidity.  Our North Texas custom home builders are all about efficient cooling, so we hope you find the tips below helpful!

First of all, be sure you have a properly sized HVAC system that’s Energy Star certified.  This ensures your system will provide the ultimate in cooling, ventilation, and helping remove excess humidity from the air.  There is absolutely nothing that can take the place of a quality cooling and heating system.

Use common sense.  Keep the daytime heat out by closing shades or window coverings on east- and west-facing windows.  Keep the doors and windows closed to keep heat and humidity outdoors where it belongs.  Use appliances that generate heat only during early morning or late evening hours.

Choose lighter colors, inside and out.  Lighter colors reflect the sunlight and heat, while dark colors absorb heat.  Light colored shades for the windows are a good idea, along with a light colored roof.  If you can deal with white, it’s the best choice for window blinds, walls and more.

Circulate the air.  Ceiling fans are a great way to enhance your comfort level while turning the thermostat up a couple of degrees. Because they stir the cooled air around, it feels cooler to your skin.  You’ll be more comfortable and save money on cooling costs at the same time!  Be sure to turn fans off in rooms you aren’t using, as they don’t actually bring the temperature down.

Add some beautiful plants into the mix.  You may already know that plants help clean the air inside your home, but did you know they can actually help cool it as well?  Plants release water into the air during photosynthesis, so if you have several you will notice the surrounding air feels a bit cooler.

Of course top-notch insulation, radiant barrier roof decking and other materials will make your home more comfortable and energy efficient as well.  At Bud Bartley Homes, our Flower Mound custom home builders go the distance when it comes to creating quality, beautiful high-end homes our clients love.  Come see what we have to offer today!
