While you may have spared no expense on your custom home, most Flower Mound homeowners do want to save as much as possible on energy costs. Why pay a small fortune every month on your utility bills when you don’t have to? We have a few tips to help you save without sacrificing your family’s comfort.
Spring is just around the corner, and this is a time when you can really save. When temperatures are pleasant, open up the windows and enjoy the fresh air and cool breezes. No need to use the heat or the A/C when it’s 60 or 65 degrees outdoors!
The ceiling fan is another great helper, regardless of the season. In spring and summer months the ceiling fan circulates the air in the room, making it feel cooler to the skin. You may be able to raise the thermostat temp a degree or two – and every degree makes a difference. During winter months, put the ceiling fan on reverse. This works to push the hot air that rises to the ceiling back down to where you are, keeping you warm and comfortable.
Check doors, windows and penetrations for air leaks. Worn out weatherstripping or crumbling caulk will result in air leaks, which impact your comfort more than you can imagine. If weatherstripping is worn or missing, caulk needs replacing, or you have a crack or hole that has developed, seal it up. Also check around areas where pipes come into your home such as under sinks and vanities.
If you don’t have one, consider a programmable thermostat. This type of thermostat is incredible for helping you save on energy costs. No more turning the temperature up and down depending on whether anyone’s home, it’s bed time, etc. Why have your heating or cooling system constantly kicking on and off when everyone’s away at work or school, or you’re on a week’s long vacation?
There are countless things you can do to save energy regardless of the season.
