Dallas Custom Home Builders – Design Tips for Easy Living

July 24, 2015

dallas custom home builders

As one of the most reputable Dallas custom home builders, we know there are many design features that can make life just a little bit easier for homeowners. Whether you have someone with arthritis or other issues living in your household, children, or simply want to make things a bit easier on yourself, we think you will find these tips useful.

Instead of knobs, consider lever-style handles for the doors. Not only are lever-style handles easier to use for folks with arthritis or other challenges, they are elegant in design and can actually add value to your home. A lever handle is also ideal in case of an emergency, when children and the rest of the family need to make a quick escape. Doorknobs can be difficult to turn for anyone – even us capable adults, when lugging in an armload or two of groceries!

Use rocker-style light switches in place of toggle switches. Rocker switches are large, and can be operated with a knuckle or elbow when your hands are full – plus they’re much easier to clean than toggle style switches, and sleek in design.

Anti-scald or pressure-balancing valves help prevent burns, as water won’t reach temperatures that are unsafe. If the water becomes too hot, the shower head reduces water flow. You can also get these devices for faucets for about $30 to $50. You won’t have to worry about sudden bursts of hot water scalding your children or yourself, if you have an anti-scald valve installed. If you’re not handy with plumbing issues, you may want to pay a professional to handle this job for you.

Do you frequently get up for a midnight snack, or have young children who come into your room during the night? You may want to consider motion sensor light controls, which simply plug into receptacles and then into your table lamp. The light comes on automatically when motion is detected, and goes off in about 10 minutes. No more fumbling for the light switch in the dark!

We thought these ideas would help make life simpler – and who couldn’t use a little more simplicity these days?
