Building A Home – Choose A Certified Green Professional

March 8, 2018

certified green professional

As builders of custom green homes in North Texas, we’re often asked what exactly a “green” home is. Simply put, it is a home that is not only more friendly in environmental terms, but more energy efficient as well. For example, a home that’s energy efficient allows the homeowner to enjoy a comfortable home during hot summer months and warmth during winter months while consuming less energy. While there’s a little more to it than that, you get the gist. What is a Certified Green Professional, and why is it important when building a new home?

What is a CGP?

A CGP (Certified Green Professional) is a builder or contractor who has been awarded this designation by the National Association of Home Builders for incorporating green materials, building methods, etc. into the homes they build. Not every home builder is given this recognition, which requires course work focused on the methods and tools used to build quality green homes for homeowners.

Making your new Flower Mound custom home more energy efficient

When your contractor is a CGP it can be extremely helpful in the design and build process, as a Certified Green Professional can guide and inform you regarding building practices, materials, and even appliances that will save you money over the long term while making your home more energy efficient and helping reduce your carbon footprint. A builder who isn’t certified simply can’t provide you with this wealth of information and knowledge.

A CPG can incorporate many features and methods into your custom home

Custom homes are often those that are upscale or more luxurious than traditional homes, however everyone wants to reduce energy consumption and utility costs! There are countless materials, methods, features and appliances a CGP contractor can offer to you, including radiant barrier roof decking, full foam encapsulation, blown-in fiberglass insulation, Energy Star certified appliances, HVAC systems, energy saving windows, programmable thermostats, tankless water heaters and more.

At Bud Bartley our goal is to ensure our clients have the guidance and support along the way to make smart decisions regarding their homes. When you’re ready to begin the process of building your dream custom home in Flower Mound, never settle for less than the best!
